Zion's National Park Family Trip July 2014

On July 23rd--shortly after we dropped Dallin off at the airport to leave for the Mexico MTC--Me, Scott, Kaiser, joined up with Scott's mom and siblings for our vacation in Zions/St. George!

The drive went great--Kaiser did beautifully! (Surprisingly...) And we were able to drive without stopping too many times. I drove most of the way down, and the boys were able to get a little shut eye.
The first day was mostly spent traveling. We got to our hotel, got settled, and hung out for the day.

The next morning we headed over to Zion's National Park. Since I hadn't been there before, and it had been a while since everyone else had, we spent a fair amount of time deciding how we wanted to allot our time while being there. We then took a beautiful scenic drive around the beautiful park. Along the way we were even able to see some what we think were big horned sheep. They bolted off the rocks and into the road right in front of our car. Pretty cool!
After our drive around the park, we decided to hike Angel's Landing. It was about 1:30 pm, and really hot--as in over 100 degrees hot, but we were excited to get going and get some hiking in that we didn't want to wait. Scott carried Kaiser initially in our Kelty backpack and did so for a good portion of the hike. The farther we got the more difficult it became because of the weather conditions and sun on our bodies. But we did well to keep everyone hydrated. I took a turn with Kaiser for a while, but my body tired out with him on my back after a little while, so Kendall took him for the rest of the way up. I'm sure everyone who passed us on the trail thought we were psycho for taking our child. But, we only took him up to a certain point and turned around. We had our DSLR camera, my phone, and the GoPro for photos.
We got to the part of the hike that is not suitable for small children and babies, where you climb up a steep path with the help of a chain. Since we weren't going to take Kaiser, we turned around and headed down. Connor and Kendall took our camera and went up the chains without us. They snapped some great pics!
The next day we did The Narrows hike in Zion's. It is a gorgeous hike through the narrow canyon in the park. We put our swimming gear on along with our water shoes, and some walking sticks and were off. It was beautiful! We waded through water in between these tall, narrow canyons admiring the beauty around us.
We got finished with The Narrows hike in the nick of time. It down poured right when we got done. Bethany and Kacee got there that evening and we spent the rest of our day hanging out, playing with Kaiser, and watching a movie.

We went swimming practically every single night. Kaiser absolutely loves the water--he loves to kick and splash. The pool felt so refreshing after our hot days in Zion's/St. George.
The main reason we decided to take this trip in the first place was for the St. George Air Show that Scott and Connor really wanted to check out. The Blue Angels were flying in it, and we were able to see real WWII takes used in battle. It was a great time!
We made some wonderful memories with the family, and it was a great vacation to go on before leaving the beautiful state of Utah.
