San Antonio Getaway

Before Scott started school, we made a last minute quick decision to head to San Antonio for the weekend and do a little sight-seeing since we haven't ever been. We went January 15-16th. It is a little bit less than a 3 hour drive from our house so we decided to stay the night at a hotel and not feel rushed in doing what we wanted to do.

We did not do a ton of research on what to see while we were there. We know that there is a lot more to do than what we had on our list but we didn't care. And we were trying to keep it in the budget. We wanted to check out the riverwalk, and see the Alamo. And Scott was interested in seeing the Historic San Antonio Missions. So those were the only things on our sight-seeing list.

The first day we spent solely checking out the Riverwalk. It was really pretty but a little scary to take Kaiser on just because the water looked super deep, the place was crowded with tourists, and I was worrying about Kaiser falling in a lot of the time haha. It had a fun feel to it and we enjoyed walking around getting a sense of the city. Here are some photos:

What you see is pretty much what you get. There were some vendors alongside the Riverwalk for part of the time. We ended up buying me a new earring and that's about it. There were just hotels and restaurants alongside the entire Riverwalk. Definitely made for tourism.

We ate dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and headed back to the hotel for the night. We got Kaiser settled down and sleeping and Scott and I were able to hang out and enjoy some time together away from home, which is always fun.

The next morning we got up and went back into the town to see the Alamo. We were so surprised that it was smack dab in the middle of the city. I guess I pictured it to be in the middle of nowhere so it was so random when it wasn't. But it was great to be able to see such a historical building.

 

We only got two photos because they didn't allow you to take photos of the actual inside itself for respect purposes. But we were glad we got to experience it.

We ate lunch as this super yummy Mexican Restaurant called Mi Tierra at the City Center before heading out to see some of the missions. Mexican food at it's finest I tell ya.

We went to the first mission on our stop that was closest to city center. We ended up finding a nail in our tire so we knew that our trip was going to have to be cut short. We walked around and took in all the beauty before heading to fix the tire.

It was so beautiful to see and so fun to learn about all the rich culture that exists in that old building. 

While we were at the tire place, I noticed the cute little freckles on Kaiser's nose. He is starting to get quite a few and I am absolutely in love with them! So here are some up close and doofy photos of Kaiser so we can see his freckles :)

And this one just had to be shown because he was so intently watching his "Dragon Movie" aka--How to Train your Dragon. He LOVES it. The only movie he will sit through the entire way through.

We wish we could have seen more missions and more of San Antonio in general, but we had prior engagements that we needed to be home for that night and had to be going home. I love little last-minute getaways though and am glad we went. Overall, a good trip but one that I am content not to go back to see. Maybe not with kids at least.
